DEVELOPMENT

The Filipino Nurses Association in the Nordic Region constantly participates in research and development that would improve patient safety, nursing education and the lives of Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs).


Since it's establishment in 2018, the non-profit organization has been active in collaborating and producing research works in those areas.

Interest and Background

Floro Cubelo, is a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Degree Programme in Nursing at the Oulu University of Applied Sciences (OAMK). With a multiple nursing qualifications, including Finland, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, and the Philippines, Floro's expertise lies in infection prevention and control nursing, particularly in developing guidelines for international nursing students. He holds a Master's Degree in Public Health and is currently pursuing his Doctoral studies in Health Sciences, focusing on Nursing Science, at the University of Eastern Finland. His expertise in the nursing field include: internal medicine, chronic care, acute care, clinical mentorship, nurse migration in the Nordic Region, and leading a non-profit organization.

In 2023, Floro was honored with the prestigious Fellowship of the Faculty of Nursing & Midwifery RCSI (FFNMRCSI) from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland University of Medicine and Health Sciences. Additionally, he was recognized as the Queen Silvia Nursing Award Scholar and Laureate in the same year. In 2024, he received the Extraordinary Internationally Educated Nurse Educator Award by the DAISY Foundation.

As an active peer-reviewer for international journals and a member of various professional associations, Floro continues to contribute significantly to the advancement of nursing practice and education globally.

RESEARCH WORK AND PARTICIPATION

The study aimed to analyze the directive and formative stage of the selected
Finnish and Philippines written nursing curriculum.

The aim of the study is to describe the challenges of the Filipino Nurses working in the Finnish Social and Health Care Services and the solutions.

To collate evidence about patient outcomes resulting from the phenomenon of incomplete nursing care described in the literature variously as missed, rationed, or unfinished nursing care.

To describe a randomized controlled trial protocol that will evaluate the effectiveness of two web‐based genomic nursing education interventions.

Improving evidence-based COPD self-management with a decision support system in Finland.

ONGOING DEVELOPMENT AND COLLABORATION

NURSING CURRICULUM IN GRENADA


The chairperson of the Filipino Nurses Association in the Nordic Region participated in an expert meeting to help create a nursing curriculum in Grenada that is standardized and comparable to the international labour market.

TUTOR ONLINE MASTER'S DEGREE IN PUBLIC HEALTH


The chairperson participates as an online tutor in an online master's degree programme in public health especially designed for students from low and middle income countries.

PATIENT SAFETY CULTURE FROM THE PERSPECTIVES OF NURSING STUDENTS


Ongoing research work collaboration together with researchers from Czech Republic and Slovakia approved by the Ethical Committee of the Palacky University, Faculty of Health Sciences in Oloumuc, Czech Republic.

NON-PHARMACOLOGICAL INTERVENTION GUIDELINES FOR PATIENTS UNDER PALLIATIVE CARE
